Millikin Strong in Carthage Classic Prelims

    The Millikin men's and women's swimming team completed the first day of the of the Carthage Classic in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Dec. 5.  The event features morning prelims and Championship and Consoliation finals in the evening.  After the first day of competition, Millikin's men's and women's teams are both in seventh place.  The meet concludes on Saturday.

    Millikin freshman Sami Battle broke her own school record finishing in second place in the 50 Yard Freestyle in 24.40.  Battle won the Consolation Final in the 200 Yard Freestyle to finish 11th overall in the event.  Battle's time was 1:59.30, which is fourth fastest all-time in Millikin history.

    Big Blue junior Shelby Kobs finished in third place in the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 1:08.81, which is improved Kobs third place standing in the Millikin Top Ten performance list.

    Junior Emily Vana was eighth in the 200 Yard Butterfly in 2:31.20.

    In the men's Championship finals, Millikin's Jeremy Baehler was ninth in the 400 Yard IM in 4:31.85 and Patrick Lewellyan was 10th in the 100 Yard Breaststroke in
1:02.21.  Lewellyan's morning prelim time of 1:01.93 was 10th fastest in school history.

    In women's Consolation Finals Lauren Stryzek was finished 16th in the 400 Yard IM in 5:19.18 and Felicity Speirs was 18th in the 200 Yard Freestyle in 2:06.46.

    In men's B Finals, Baehler was 12th in the 500 Yard Freestyle in 5:01.94.  Jacob Sagan was 16th in the 100 Yard Backstroke in 1:10.65.  Zak Ellrick was 17th in the 50 Yard Free in 22.99 seconds and Lewis Hussey was 20th in the 100 Yard Backstroke in 1:02.89.
