Millikin's Bruce named CCIW Baseball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Millikin's Mason Bruce and Augustana's Kyle McGinley were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Players of the Week on Tuesday.
Bruce, a sophomore outfielder from Decatur, Illinois and Mt. Zion High School (Digital Media Marketing major), helped lead the Big Blue to a 3-2 record to open the 2017 season. He batted .400 (8-for-20) with 6 runs, two doubles, one triple, seven RBI, a .600 slugging percentage and one stolen base. He also had no errors in the field. Bruce finished with multiple hits in three of those games, including a 3-for-4 performance with two runs, one double and one walk in a 9-2 win over the University of the Ozarks on February 19. He was 2-for-4 with one run, one double, one triple and five RBI in a 9-4 win over Bethel (Ind.) on February 24. Bruce finished 2-for-6 with one run in a 4-3 loss to Ozarks in the season opener on February 18.
McGinley, a senior pitcher from Denver, Colorado and J.K. Mullen High School (Business management major), finished with a 1.59 ERA with 16 strikeouts and four walks over two appearances and 11.1 innings pitched. He worked six innings in a start against Brandeis on February 20 as he struck out nine batters, walked two and gave up just one hit and no runs. The Vikings eventually won 2-1. McGinley went 5.1 innings against Otterbein on February 25 as he totaled seven strikeouts, two walks and gave up two runs.

During the 2015-16 academic year, the CCIW honored over 1,600 academic all-conference recipients, 14 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, 36 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients and over 100 all-Americans.
