The new facility was made possible by a generous $2 million contribution from Millikin University Trustee Gary Workman ’65 and his wife, Judy. The Workman Family Softball Field features an artificial turf infield and outfield surface, lights, chair back and bleacher seating for 150 people, dugouts, batting cages, restrooms, concessions area, and press box.
 
“Judy and I are happy to be able to fund the planned new softball field on the campus of Millikin University,” said Workman. “The addition of on-campus athletic facilities aids in the recruitment of student-athletes as well as increasing the enjoyment of campus life for all students. Travel to and from the practice and game field will save players time. I hope that the new field will also increase interest in the softball team resulting in a rise in attendance at home games from both Millikin students and softball fans in the Decatur area.”
 
“First and foremost I want to thank Gary and Judy Workman for their great generosity to Millikin; it means so much to the future of our athletic program,” said Millikin Director of Athletics Dr. Craig White. “Athletic facilities are very important to the future of Millikin and Big Blue Athletics. The first step was the renovations to Frank M. Lindsay Field. A new softball facility is the next step with more steps to come in the near future. As Millikin did with the turf field, lights and video scoreboard at Lindsay Field, the Workman Family Softball field will have a collegiate look that will set the tone for future athletic facilities.”
