Bradan Birt won at 165 pounds at the Pete Willson Invitie at Wheaton College going 5-0 in the tournament to improve to 30-0 on the season. Birt, who began the tournament ranked second in the country in the latest NWCA rankings, pinned Brandon Peckham of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at the 5:00 mark in the Championship match. After posting three wins by fall on Friday, Birt opened Saturday with a 20-3 technical fall win over Casey Allen of Cornell. Birt was named the tournament’s George Olson Outstanding Wrestler and won the Jack Swartz Award for most falls in the least amount of time. His four falls took 8:01. Millikin Head Coach and Bradan’s father, Ryan Birt was the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the 1999 Wheaton Invitational.
