NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Augustana quarterback Cole Bhardwaj, Millikin defensive lineman Alexander Perkins (Chicago, Morgan Park H.S.) and Millikin punter Peter Slade, Jr. (Oxnard, Calif., Pacifica H.S.) have been selected College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athletes of the Week after non-conference competition in the opening week of the season.
Perkins was all over the field in Millikin’s 28-14 week one victory over Greenville in Decatur. The senior from Chicago shared the team lead with eight tackles, but added a game-high 4.0 tackles for loss and sacked GU quarterback Peyton Bates to force a GU punt late in the third quarter. The effort from Perkins allowed MU to limit the visitors to just 224 yards of total offense.
Making his collegiate debut, Slade, Jr. averaged 42.0 yards on four punts with a long punt of 45 yards in Millikin’s win. The freshman from Oxnard, Calif. also rushed for 18 yards out of MU’s punt formation on a play that extended the Big Blue’s first scoring drive of the afternoon.
