Brent Barnes

          Brent Barnes joined the Millikin football staff in 2016 serving as the Big Blue’s Offensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator.
          Barnes brings over 15 years of experience to Millikin having coached on both sides of the football.  Most recently, Barnes was the Defensive Coordinator\Linebackers coach at Alfred University.
          From 2012-14, Barnes served on Millikin Head Football Coach Dan Gritti’s staff when the two were at Rhodes College.  Barnes served as both the Defensive Secondary Coach and Passing Game Coordinator.  Barnes was part of the Rhodes staff when the Lynx won the SAA Conference Championship and had the school’s best two-year winning percentage in over 20 years. 
          Prior to Rhodes, Barnes was the offensive coordinator at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC, Canada, coaching wide receivers in 2010 and quarterbacks in 2011. He was an assistant at Middlebury (VT) College in 2008 and 2009, serving as passing game coordinator and wide receiver coach, recruiting coordinator and special teams coach.
Barnes has also had stints at the University of Chicago, Utica College, the University of Redlands, and Montclair State University.
            Barnes graduated from Rice University with bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering, economics and history.  While at Montclair State, he earned his master’s degree in physical education.
