Big Blue Football Falls to #11 Wheaton

The Millikin football team lost to 11th ranked Wheaton College 28-3 on October 18 at Frank M. Lindsay Field.

The Big Blue stayed in the game with the undefeated Thunder until to fourth quarter when two Wheaton touchdowns put the game out of reach.

Wheaton opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 28 yard pass from quarterback Johnny Peltz to Keegan Kemp.

Millikin scored early in the second quarter on a 32 yard Chayce Volpert field goal.

Wheaton made it 14-3 with three minutes left to play in the second quarter on a Peltz one yard run.

Millikin held the Thunder off the board in the third quarter, but couldn't get into the offense. Millikin did have one scoring drive in the third quarter getting stopped on fourth down inside the Wheaton 25 yard line.

Jesse Geary would score on two short touchdown runs in the fourth quarter to put the game away for the Thunder.

Millikin drove inside the Wheaton 10 yard line late in the game, but couldn't convert on a first and goal opportunity from the Thunder 10 yard line.

Wheaton gained 396 yards of total offense with Millikin gaining 374 yards.

Wheaton had 240 yards rushing and 156 yards passing. The Big Blue rushed for 177 yards and 197 yards passing.

Nick Pippin passed for 192 yards on 19-37-1 passing for the Big Blue.

Justin Brooks was Millikin's top rusher with 67 yards. Brady Cufaude led the Big Blue receivers with six catches for 87 yards.

Peltz and 13-23 passing for 156 yards and one score while rushing for 93 yards on 20 carries. Geary rushed for 103 yards on 16 carries.

Matt Madrigal and Jake Gates led the Millikin defense with 12 tackles each.

Mickey Swider had 17 tackles for the Thunder.

Wheaton improves to 6-0, 3-0 while Millikin falls to 2-4, 0-3.

Millikin travels to North Park University in Chicago on Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.
