Big Blue Football Loses to Carthage

    A bad second half doomed the Millikin football team as the Big Blue lost to Carthage College 28-22 at Frank M. Lindsay Field in Decatur, Illinois on November 1.
 
   Millikin led 22-14 at halftime, but Carthage out scored the Big Blue 14-0 in the second half to pull out the victory.  Millikin out gained Carthage offensively 368-325, but threw three costly interceptions.

    Millikin scored on its opening possession as quarterback Nick Pippin hit Taylor Sanders on a 15 yard TD pass.  After a missed extra point, Millikin led 6-0.
 
   Carthage answered back on its first possession scoring in four plays and covering 60 yards.  Nick Amzelmo connected with Marcus Hines on an 19 yard touchdown pass to make it 7-6 Red Men.
 
   Millikin took a 12-7 lead early in the second quarter on a 14 yard Justin Brooks run.
 
   After stopping Carthage on its next possesion, Millikin scored again on a 26 yard pass from Pippin to Brady Cufaude to make it a 19-7 advantage.  
 
   Millikin's Mykal Neal then intercepted Amzelmo setting up a 27 yard Chayce Volpert field goal to make it 22-7 Millikin.
 
   A bad snap on a Millikin punt attempt set up Carthage's second quarter scored.  The Red Men drive started at the Millikin 14 yard line and resulted in a one yard touchdown run by Anzelmo.
 
   Carthage took advantage of a Pippin interception early in the third quarter scoring a 42 yard Thomas Brannen field goal to pull to 22-17.  Carthage added a 28 yard Brannen field goal early in the fourth quarter to make it a 22-20 game.
 
 
 Carthage started its game winning drive at the 50 yard line after another inception.  Tristian Peterson gave Carthage the lead for good on a 32 yard run with 10:16 left in the game.
 
   Senior running back Justin Brooks led the Millikin offense with 116 yards rushing.  Pippin was 17-35-2 passing for 254 yards and two touchdowns.  Cufaude led the Big Blue receivers with 119 yards.
 
   Peterson had 121 yards rushing for Carthage on 16 carries.  Anzelmo was 11-33-2 passing for 153 yards.
 
   Matt Madrigal led the Millikin defenders with 12 tackles.
 
   Greg Money had 10 tackles and an interception to lead the Carthage defense.    
 
   Carthage goes to 3-5, 2-3 while Millikin falls to 2-6, 0-5.
 
   Millikin will host Elmhurst College on November 8 at 1 p.m.
