Millikin Volleyball Falls in CCIW Championship Match

          The #23 Millikin University volleyball team lost 3-2 to #14 Carthage College in the CCIW Volleyball Tournament Championship match. 
          Carthage (34-3) the regular season conference champ earned the CCIW's automatic bid to the NCAA DIII Volleyball Tournament.   Millikin goes to 30-9 on the season and will have to wait until Monday morning to see if they are awarded an at-large berth into the tournament.
          The five set match was fitting of a championship event with Carthage taking the first two sets 25-18 and 25-19 before the Big Blue rallied to win the third set 25-21 and stayed alive in the fourth set winning 26-24.  Carthage took control of the deciding fifth set and held on for a 15-6 win.
          Senior Jade Becker led Millikin with 13 kills and six blocks.  Freshman Erin Syversen had 12 kills and 18 digs.  Audrey Krajec had eight kills and 10 digs for the Big Blue.  Freshman Christina Capuani led Millikin in digs with 20.  Fellow freshman Jenna Hilgers had a team high 30 set assists and 18 digs.  Geena Mancuso added 16 digs. 
Alora Goodey had five kills and three blocks.
          Emily Heuermann led the Lady Reds with 12 kills followed by Bria Hailey with 10.  Stefanie Romanowski had seven kills and a team high six blocks.
          The Big Blue's Jade Becker and Sara Travis were named to the All-Tournament team.
          Millikin will find out its NCAA Tournament fate on Monday at 10 a.m.  The field will be announced live during the NCAA selection show on www.ncaa.com.  The selection show can also be found at http://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule/2014/11/10.
