Millikin Volleyball Drops Games to Top 25 Opponents

          The Millikin volleyball team lost two games to teams ranked the AVCA Top 25 to open play in Millikin's Linda Slagell Dig for the Cure Tournament on October 23 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
          The tournament field features three teams ranked in the top 25 in NCAA Division III volleyball.
          Millikin lost its first match to #19 Wisconsin-Oshkosh 3-2.  The Big Blue came out strong and won the first two sets 25-14 and 25-19.  The Titans seemed to gather themselves in the third set winning 25-16.  Wisconsin-Oshkosh then won the fourth set 25-18 and the fifth set 15-9.
          Erin Syversen led the way for Millikin with 20 kills and 13 digs.  Cortney Bohn had 11 kills and four blocks.  Alora Goodey tied Bohn for the team high in block at four.
Emily Mihalkanin had 37 set assists, 19 digs and three service aces.  Cassidy Kingery had 34 digs for the Big Blue.
          Katelyn Malcheski had 13 kills to lead the Titans.
          The Big Blue dropped its second game to third ranked Washington University-St. Louis 3-0.  The Bears won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-15, but the Big Blue never stopped battling and fell in the third set 27-25.
          Syversen had 12 kills and eight digs.  Kingery had a team high 17 digs.  Mihalkanin had 21 set assists.
          Jackie Nelligan led the Bears with 12 kills followed by Caroline Dupont with 11.
          The Bears improved to 29-2 while Millikin dropped to 19-10.
          In other tournament action, Washington University defeated Central College 3-0 and Wisconsin-Oskkosh defeated Central 3-0.
          Millikin resumes play on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. facing Central.  Millikin will play #21 University of Chicago at 3 p.m.
