Millikin Volleyball Falls in Thrilling CCIW Semifinal

          The Millikin volleyball team's season ended in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) semifinals with a 3-1 loss to four seed #17 Elmhurst College 3-1 on November 6 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
          The match was a thrilling contest with the fourth set going to match point seven different times.  Elmhurst won the first set 25-21 with Millikin battling back to take the second set 25-22.  The Bluejays won the third set 25-19 and then won the final set 31-29 with both teams battling to keep its seasons alive.
          Erin Syversen led Millikin with 14 kills, 11 digs and two service aces.  Syversen had two kills and one aces after the fourth set went to 24-24.  Senior Melissa Hanika came up big for Millikin with 11 kills and three blocks.  Hanika was big for Millikin down the stretch recording three kills in the matches final 17 points.  Kelsey Talkington had seven kills and five blocks.  Emily Mihalkanin had 32 set assists, 12 digs and two service aces.  Cassidy Kingery had 17 digs and senior Alyssa Visvardis had 12 digs.
          Alli Rogers led Elmhurst with 13 kills and Mary Lawrence added 10.
          Elmhurst advances to the CCIW Championship match to play the third seed Carthage College who knocked off the second seed Illinois Wesleyan 3-0.  The match will begin at 2 p.m. in the Griswold Center.
          Millikin ends the season at 23-13 and 5-2 in the CCIW.  The Big Blue shared the conference's regular season title with Carthage and Illinois Wesleyan.
