Millikin Women’s Basketball Falls to #15 Wheaton

          The Millikin women's basketball team lost to #15 Wheaton College 78-54 on February 11 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.  Wheaton improves to 21-2, 11-2 while Millikin falls to 13-10, 4-8.
          The game was a back and forth contest over the first 13 minutes with the score tied at 21-21 with 7:20 left in the first half.  Wheaton would then close out the half on an 18-2 run to take 39-23 advantage into the halftime locker room.
          Wheaton shot 43 percent from the field for the game while holding Millikin to just 27 percent.  Millikin won the rebounding battle 48-37.  Turnovers continue to be the downfall of the Big Blue as Millikin committed 24 turnovers including 16 in the first half.  Wheaton committed just nine turnovers.
          Alyssa Saklak and Yip Ypya led Millikin with 11 points each.  Saklak had eight rebounds.  Kelsey Going had a team high 10 rebounds for Millikin along with eight points.
          Katie McDaniels led the way for the Thunder with 24 points, nine rebounds, five assists, five steals and three blocks.  Chatal Meacham added 18 points and Ellie Zeller scored 17.
          The Millikin loss in conjunction with wins by Carthage and Elmhurst eliminates Millikin from the race for a spot in the CCIW Tournament.
          Millikin plays at Augustana on Feb. 14 and wraps up the 2014-15 season on Feb. 21 hosting Carthage College at 5 p.m.
