Millikin Softball Splits Twin Bill

    The Millikin softball team split a doubleheader at Illinois College on April 16 in Jacksonville, Illinois.  Illinois College won game one 4-2 while the Big Blue battled back to take game two 10-8.
    Millikin jumped out to an early lead in game two scoring two runs in the first and three runs in the second inning.  Millikin made it 8-3 after scoring two runs in the fifth inning.  Illinois College tied the game with a five run sixth inning, but Millikin answered with two in the seventh to pull out the win.
    In game two, freshman catcher Alyssa Voegele led the Big Blue offense going 4-5 with two doubles and four RBIs.  Centerfielder Alyssa Visvardis was 3-5.  Brooke Heimerl had two triples for Millikin.  Heather Doyle and Rachel Kindred each had two hits.
    Courtney Kwasnitza and Sierra McDonald each had three hits for the Lady Blues.
    Millikin was limited to five hits in game one by Illinois College pitcher Lanie Thompson who earned the win.
    Visvardis was the only Millikin player with two hits.  Visvardis and Voegele had the Millikin RBIs.
    Millikin is now 13-17 while Illinois College goes to 10-15.
    Millikin will play at Washington University-St. Louis on Saturday, April 18.  The Big Blue are back home on Sunday, April 19 at 1 p.m. hosting Elmhurst College.
