Big Blue Softball Splits with #20 Augustana

The Millikin softball team split a doubleheader with #20 ranked Augustana Vikings on April 6 at Borg Warner Field in Decatur, Illinois.  Millikin won game two 6-0 while the Vikings won game one 8-7 in extra innings.
The Big Blue used homeruns from freshman Alyssa Voegele and Alexis Dockins and a stellar pitching from Heather Doyle to win game two.  Doyle shutout the Vikings allowing just three hits and one walk over seven innings of work.
Voegele, who had three homeruns on the day, got the Big Blue on the board in the third inning with a three run homer.  A solo homerun by Dockins gave Millikin a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning.  Voegele hit her second homerun of game two in the fifth inning.
Voegele was 2-4 with four RBIs in the game two with Dockins going 2-2 at the plate.
In game one, Millikin jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning thanks to a Voegele homerun.
The Vikings answered back with a run in the second and four in the third to take a 5-2 advantage.
Millikin would regain the lead with a four run fifth inning.  Alyssa Visvardis had a run scoring double to get the inning started.  Dockins drove in two with a double and Brooke Heimerl picked up an RBI with a bases loaded walk.
The Vikings answered with two in the sixth to go up 7-6.
Dockins homered in the seventh inning to pull Millikin into a 7-7 tie.
Augustana scored the winning run in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Jenna Teson.
Dockins was 3-4 in game one with three RBIs.  Voegele and Nicole Koch each had two hits.
Augustana's Emily Rasche and Chelsea Lavin each had two hits in game one.  Shelby Grandt homered for the Vikings.
