Big Blue Volleyball Upsets #8 Carthage

          The Millikin volleyball team opened play in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) with a 3-0 upset of eighth ranked Carthage College on September 29 in the Griswold Center.  Millikin is now 12-5, 1-0 while Carthage falls to 13-3, 0-1.
          The first set was an epic CCIW battle with match going back and forth the entire set with the Big Blue finally pulling out the win 32-30.  The win seemed to give Millikin the confidence it needed as the Big Blue dominated the second set 25-13 and took the final set 25-20.
          Sophomore Erin Syversen led the Big Blue with an outstanding performance including 24 kills and a .380 hitting percentage.  Syversen also added two service aces.
Kelsey Talkington, Cortney Bohn and Emily Seegmiller each had six kills.  Erica Pleau had four blocks and Bohn and Emily Mihalkanin each had two.  Mihalkanin had 33 set assists.
          Carthage was led by Emily Heuermann with 10 kills.
          Millikin will play in a tournament at Illinois Wesleyan on October 3.
