Victory Sends Big Blue Volleyball to NCAA Tournament

          The Millikin volleyball team defeated Elmhurst College 3-0 in the Championship Match of the 2016 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament on November 5 in Decatur, Illinois.  The victory earned the Big Blue the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
          Millikin, the CCIW's regular season champion, won all three sets of the extremely close match.  The Big Blue won 25-21, 25-22 and 28-26.  The final set was a back-and-forth battle all the way to the end.
          Millikin got 18 points and 10 digs from junior Erin Syversen.  Sophomore Emily Seegmiller added 12 kills attacking at a .375 percentage.  Emily Milhalkanin had 33 set assist and five digs.  Senior Kelsey Talkington had a team high four blocks and ended the match with a service ace.  Sophomore Cortney Bohn had seven kills.  Alora Goodey had four kills and three blocks.
          Mel Lundin led Elmhurst with 11 kills.
          "I felt as if our regional ranking was not high enough to make the NCAA tournament without winning the conference tournament," said Kiick.  "This win was hugely important for us.  Since 2000, only Carthage and Elmhurst have won the CCIW Tournament so beating both of them to win the tournament makes it that much better.  
The steady determination of the group was so impressive.  The clutch big plays at important times was the difference maker."
          Millikin is now 26-11 on the season while Elmhurst falls to 22-12.
          Millikin will find its NCAA Tournament opponent and location when the 2016 NCAA Volleyball Championships field is announced on Monday, November 7 at 11:30 a.m.  The live selection show will be available online at NCAA.com.
