Millikin Women’s Basketball Closes Season with Win

          The Millikin women's basketball team closed out the 2015-16 season with a 71-61 win over Carthage College on February 20 in the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
          Millikin led the entire game including 39-24 at halftime.  Millikin pushed the lead out to as many as 21 in the third quarter and held a 55-39 advantage at the end of three quarters.  The Lady Reds mounted a fourth quarter comeback outscoring the Big Blue in the quarter 22-16, but the Big Blue answered the challenge holding on the for win.  Millikin lead 60-56 with 2:42 remaining and then the Big Blue went on a 9-2 run to push the advantage back to double digits.  Devin Curry scored Millikin's final 11 points with a three-pointer and eight straight free throws.
          Millikin shot 41 percent from the field and hit on 6-17 (35 percent) from three point range.  Carthage hit on 41 percent from the field and went 8-13 (35 percent) from three point range.  The Big Blue had an advantage at the free throw line making 21-24 (87.5 percent) while Carthage hit on 13-17 (76.5 percent).  Millikin dominated the boards 40-24.
          Senior Alyssa Saklak went out in style scoring 19 points and grabbing seven rebounds.  Curry finished with 17 points.  In addition to Saklak, three other Big Blue seniors played in their final games.  Kelsey Going had two points and seven rebounds, Alex Capeles added six points and Kelly Skorczewski had four points and three rebounds.
          Carthage's top scorer was Bailey Gilbert with 24 points.  Morgan Vukovich added 13.
          Millikin finishes the season at 9-16, 2-12 while Carthage ends at 9-16, 5-10.
