Big Blue Softball Takes Two from Illinois College

         The Millikin softball team swept a doubleheader from Illinois College on April 30 in Jacksonville, Illinois.  The Big Blue took game one 8-4 and won the second game 8-5.
         In game one, Illinois College scored three runs in the first inning thanks in part to a two run home run by Elyce Trout.
         Millikin answered with a four run third inning.  Brooke Heimerl started the Millikin scoring with an RBI single.  Alyssa Voegele added a two run home run and Lena Dyer closed out the third with a run scoring single. 
         The Big Blue added two more in the fifth and single runs in the sixth and seventh.  Jordan Themer had an RBI single in the fifth and Dyer drove home another run with a double.  Kirsten Iversen drove home Millikin's sixth inning run with a single and Alexis Dockins drove home the Big Blue's final run on a ground out.
         Iversen was 4-4 for the Big Blue.  Voegele was 2-3 and Dyer went 2-4.  Whitley Baker was the winning pitcher throwing the first four innings.  Cathy Lebryk earned the save pitching the final three innings allowing only one hit.
         Millikin had to rally again in game two, Illinois College led 4-3, but the Big Blue scored five runs in the seventh inning to pull out the victory.  Iversen continued her hot hitting going 2-4.  Heimerl was 2-4 with an RBI.  Amber Morgan was 2-2 with two RBIs.  Baker earned her second victory of the day pitching in relief for Millikin.
         Marissa Knowles was 2-4 with a home run and two RBIs for Illinois College.
         Millikin improves to 18-20 while Illinois College falls to 20-14.
         The Big Blue will wrap up its season on Sunday, May 1 with a doubleheader at Washington University-St. Louis.
