Millikin Volleyball Downs Thunder

          The #25 Millikin volleyball team picked up an important conference win defeating Wheaton College 3-1 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois on Sept. 27.  The Big Blue are now 13-4, 2-0 while Wheaton goes to 4-11, 0-2.
          The Thunder won the opening set 25-22, but the Big Blue rallied in the second set and won 25-12.  Millikin then fought off the Thunder 25-22 and 25-19.  Millikin had a balanced attack with four players in double figures with kills.  Erin Syversen had 12 kills, 22 digs and six aces.  Cortney Bohn had 11 kills and four blocks.  Alora Goodey and Kelsey Talkington each had 10 kills with Goodey adding a team high five blocks and Talkington recording three blocks.  Emily Mihalkanin had 41 set assists and 14 digs.  Cassidy Kingery had 22 digs.  Freshman Tory Speckin added 13 digs.
          Meghan Lacey led the Thunder with 13 kills followed by Shelby Knowles with 10.
          Millikin will host CCIW rival and 21st ranked Illinois Wesleyan on Friday, September 30 at 7 p.m. during Millikin's Homecoming celebration.
          In the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Coaches poll released today, the CCIW has three teams ranked in the Top 25.  Elmhurst is 18th, the Titans 21st and Millikin slipped to #25 after being ranked #24 last week.
