Loss to #2 Calvin Ends Big Blue Volleyball’s NCAA Run

        The 11th ranked Millikin University volleyball team lost to second ranked Calvin College 3-0 on November 10 in the Bloomington, Illinois Regional Semifinals of the 2017 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships. 
        It was the second straight year that the 2016 NCAA Champs knocked Millikin out of the NCAA Tournament.
        Calvin took the match 25-17, 25-23, 25-17.  Service errors proved costly to Millikin committing 17 in the match.  The Big Blue had eight service errors in the first set allowing the Crusaders to gain momentum in the match.
        Senior Erin Syversen led Millikin will 11 kills, five digs and two service aces.  Fellow senior Alora Goodey added 10 kills.  Senior setter Emily Mihalkanin had 28 set assists, seven digs and three aces.  Senior Meredith Artime ended her Big Blue career with a team high 11 digs.
        Anna Kamp led Calvin with nine kills and 10 digs.  Sarah DeVries added eight kills.
        The Millikin senior class ended a stellar career that included three College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) regular season titles and two trips to the NCAA Tournament.
        "It has been the best four years of my life," said Goodey.  "There has been ups and downs, but I got to end my career playing in the NCAA Tournament against the defending national champions.  I hope they go on and win again this year.  I am blessed to have had the teammates and coaching staff I did here at Millikin."
        Syversen added that past teams at Millikin and set the bar high and she was proud she got to play in two NCAA Tournaments.  She added she is proud of the hard work she and the team have put in over the last your years.
        Millikin ends the year 29-8.  Calvin (28-3) advances to Saturday's final to face the winner of the Carthage College vs. Illinois Wesleyan semifinal.
