Millikin Women Fall in Season Finale

          The Millikin women's basketball team closed out the 2016-17 season with a 94-79 loss to Elmhurst College on February 21 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
          Millikin jumped out to a 24-19 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Bluejays fought back and went into the locker room up 40-38 at halftime.  Elmhurst opened the second half with an 18-5 run to open up a 15 point lead midway through the third quarter.  The Big Blue stayed close and it was a 68-59 advantage at end of the third quarter.  Millikin got to within six on three different occasions in the fourth quarter, but the Bluejays always had an answer for the Millikin run.
          Elmhurst's Mikaela Eppard was the story of the game with a double double with 39 points and 20 rebounds.  Eppard scored 25 points and had 12 rebounds in the second half.  Hannah Lipman had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Bluejays.
          Millikin had five players score in double figures led by Devin Curry with 21 points and six rebounds.  Emily Schultz had 14 points followed by freshman EC Thies with 12 and Yanni Saddler and Lauren Moses each with 10.
          Millikin senior Rachael Weber closed out her Big Blue career with five points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals.
          Elmhurst shot 54 percent from the field and went 7-13 (54 percent) from three point range.  Millikin shot 41 percent and hit on 6-19 (32 percent) from beyond the arc.
Elmhurst won the rebounding battle 42-21.
          Millikin finishes the season at 11-14, 5-11.  Elmhurst ends the year at 19-6, 11-5 and finished in third place in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
