Millikin Baseball Splits with Wheaton

         The Millikin baseball team split a doubleheader with Wheaton College on April 1 at Sunnyside Park in Decatur, Illinois.  The Big Blue took two of three in the opening series of play in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW).  Millikin is now 12-5, 2-2 while the Thunder go to 12-8, 2-2.
         Millikin won game one 7-4.  The Big Blue jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning and never looked back.  Mason Bruce opened the Millikin first with a single.  Julian Gutierrez doubled home Bruce to tie the game at 1-1.  Devin Crews then hit a two run homerun to make it 3-1 Big Blue.
         Crews was 3-4 on the game with three runs scored and two RBIs.  Jake Stanton was 2-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Seth Coffey was 2-4 with an RBI.  Hunter Wenstrom was also 2-4. 
         Brandon Viken earned the victory in relief for Millikin throwing three innings allowing three hits and one run while striking out four.  Zach Owens picked up the save throwing the final two innings allowing one hit.
         Wheaton got homeruns from Peter Newman and Brett Albaugh who went 2-4 in the game.
         The Thunder won game two 5-0 behind the pitching of Michael McCraith who held the Big Blue to one hit in nine innings of work while striking out 10.
         Millikin will host Illinois Wesleyan on April 5 at 6 p.m.
