Late Rally Gives Millikin Softball Win and CCIW Championship

Millikin rallied with 10 runs in the final two innings to defeat Carthage College 12-4 in the second game of a doubleheader giving the Big Blue the 2017 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Regular Season Championship.  Millikin earns the right to host the CCIW Tournament May 5-6.
The Big Blue ends the regular season at 30-10 and a 14-2 conference record.
Carthage finishes 13-3 in the conference.
With Carthage leading 3-2, Millikin scored seven runs in the fifth inning and three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the 12-4 victory.
Millikin's three run seventh saw the Big Blue score on four hits and three Carthage errors.  Alexis Dockins had an RBI single in the inning for Millikin.  Other Big Blue runs batted in went to Kailey Lyons on a two run single and Marissa Padilla on a single.  Millikin ended the game in the sixth inning after two hits and two Lady Reds' errors.  Devin Curry had a two run single and Dockins scored the game ending run on a dropped fly ball off the bat of Lyons.
Trailing 3-0, Millikin got on the board in the second inning. Chelsea Eads doubled and scored on an RBI fielder's choice from Dockins to make it a 3-1 game.  Millikin made it 3-2 in the third when Lyons singled and used her speed to score after a Carthage throwing error.
Gracie Brookens was the winning pitcher for Millikin allowing five hits and one earned run over sixth innings.
Carthage set up the final game showdown with a 4-0 victory in game one.  The Lady Reds', Katie Herron, shutout the Big Blue on five hits while striking out three.   Darian Pelsor provided the offensive spark for Carthage going 2-3 with a homerun and two RBIs.  Brooke Sefcik also homered for the Lady Reds.
Padilla had a triple for the Big Blue.
Millikin will now have to wait almost two weeks while the rest of the conference finishes up the regular season.  The CCIW Tournament will be held at Workman Family Softball Field May 5-6 where the Big Blue are 14-0 on the season.  The conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament goes to the winner of the conference tournament.
