Big Blue Softball Falls in CCIW Championship Game

          The Millikin softball team lost to Illinois Wesleyan University 1-0 in the Championship game of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament on May 6 at the Workman Family Softball Field in Decatur, Illinois.
          The final game was a pitcher's duel between Millikin's Cathy Lebryk and the Titans' Brea Walker.  The game's only run scored in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly from Jillian Runyon.  Walker threw seven innings limiting Millikin to five hits while striking out five.  Lebryk gave up on six hits and one unearned run with two strikeouts.  Lebryk ends the year at 15-5 while Walker improves to 14-4.
          Maggie Graham and Brittany Murphy had two hits in the game for Illinois Wesleyan. 
          Millikin advanced to the Championship game with a 7-3 come from behind win over North Central on Saturday morning.  Trailing 3-2, Millikin took the lead with two runs in the fourth and added some insurance with three runs in the top of the seventh.
          Kalli Farmer went 3-4 for Millikin with an RBI.  Kailey Lyons was 2-4 with two runs scored.  Chelsea Eads was 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
          Anna Seffernick, Brooke Kehoe and Samantha Phillips each had two hits for the Cardinals.    
          Millikin's Gracie Brookens was the winning pitcher throwing seven innings while allowing 11 hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts.
          Illinois Wesleyan is now 31-12 and earns the CCIW's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament.  Millikin ends its year at 32-12 and the CCIW Regular Season Championship with a 14-2 record.  The Big Blue are not expected to receive an NCAA bid when the field in announced on Monday.
