Millikin Baseball Ends Solid 2017 Season

          The Millikin University baseball team wrapped a solid 2017 season with a doubleheader loss to #20 Washington University-St. Louis on May 7 at Sunnyside Park in Decatur, Illinois.
          Millikin ends the season with a 22-18 overall record and went 11-13 in conference play.  The 22 overall wins and 11 conference victories are the most by a Big Blue team since 2004.
          After winning game one 13-1 and taking the second game 5-4, Washington University-St. Louis improved to 21-8 on the season.
          Game one was all Washington University St. Louis with the Bears scoring six runs in the second inning and six runs in the sixth.  Brad Margolin was the winning pitcher for the Bears throwing seven innings and allowing Millikin on four hits and one earned run while striking out seven.
          Shortstop Austin Darmawan led the Bears and in the field in the twin bill making several key defensive plays.  At the plate in game one, Darmawan was 3-4 with an RBI.
Scott Nelson was 2-3 with two RBIs and Christian Santos had a triple with three RBIS for the Bears.
          Three of Millikin's four hits were doubles with Jake Drada and Julian Gutierrez getting back to back doubles in the fourth.  Bobby Neylon also doubled for the Big Blue.
          Washington University jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two, but Millikin battled the entire game.  Millikin scored one in the first, fourth, seventh and eighth innings with the Bears adding to its lead with runs in the third, fifth and eighth.
          Mason Bruce was 4-5 for Millikin in game two with one RBI.  Jake Stanton homered for Millikin.  Millikin's Devin Crews had one hit in the game and tied the Millikin record for most hits in a season at 59.  The record was set in 2010 by Blaise Sylverster.
          John Brinkman wet 3-4 with a homerun and three RBIs to lead the Bears.
