Millikin Women Edged by Vikings

          The Millikin women's basketball team lost to Augustana College 75-72 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois on December 15.
          Augustana led 32-27 at the half, but Millikin rallied in the third quarter. The Big Blue were up 42-36 late in the quarter, but the Vikings cut the lead to one point at 45-44 by the end of the period. Augustana opened the fourth quarter with a 13-5 run and had built a 57-49 advantage with 6:53 remaining. The Big Blue pulled to within 67-66 with 1:21 left in the game, but Augustana got a pair of free throws from Alexis Jones and four straight from Izzy Anderson to secure the victory.
          Millikin shot 49 percent from the field and hit on 9-20 (45 percent) from three-point range. Millikin was 19-23 from the free throw line. Augustana hit on 43.5 percent from the field, but had 24 more shots than Millikin thanks in part to 25 Big Blue turnovers. Millikin won the rebounding battle 34-33.
          Freshman Aubrey Staton led Millikin with a career high 27 points and 10 rebounds. Yanni Saddler had 19 points and four assists. Jordan Hildebrand had seven points and nine rebounds.
          Augustana was led by 22 points from Anderson and 20 from Jones.
          Millikin is now 2-8 (1-3) while Augustana goes to 6-5 (2-2).
          Millikin will host Eureka College on December 18 at 6 p.m.
