Big Blue Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader

         The Millikin baseball team opened the 2018 season with a doubleheader sweep at the University of Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas on February 17.  Millikin won game one 6-2 and took the second game 12-0.
         In game one, Millikin opened the scoring in the second inning with Jake Drada leading off the inning with a walk and later scoring on a double by Luke McConnell.  Devin Crews drew an RBI walk for the Big Blue's second run.
         Junior centerfielder Mason Bruce led off the Millikin third inning with a homerun to make it a 3-0 lead.  Millikin scored three more runs in the sixth.  The Big Blue scored runs on a wild pitch, a McConnell groundout and a sacrifice fly from freshman catcher Merrik Eddington.  Bruce was 3-4 on the day for Millikin.
         Connor Gross picked up the pitching victory for Millikin throwing six innings and a third of the scheduled seven inning game.  Gross gave up two earned runs and eight hits while striking out five.
         Justin Crider was 2-3 with a homerun to lead the University of Ozarks attack.
         In game two, Millikin scored three runs in the third inning on Bruce's second homerun of the day and a two-run homerun from senior catcher Hunter Wentstrom.  The Big Blue added two runs in fifth, one in the sixth, and two runs in each of the final three innings.
         Bruce went 3-6 at the plate.  Freshman Andrew Auton went 3-5 with an RBI.  Jake Drada and Anthony Bryan each had two hits and two RBIs.  Devin Crews had two hits and an RBI.  Seth Coffey went 2-4 with two runs scored.  Julian Gutierrez had two RBIs and two runs scored.  Jon Walters had an RBI for Millikin.
         Three Millikin pitchers limited the Eagles to just three hits over nine innings.  Logan Talkington allowed two hits in five innings while striking out five.
Jared Buzan allowed one hit over two innings and freshman Michael Wojcik pitched the final two hitless innings allowing only a walk.
         Millikin is 2-0 on the season while the University of the Ozarks falls to 4-2.
