Millikin Softball Sweeps Stars

The Millikin softball team returned to action for only the second time in the last three weeks sweeping a makeup doubleheader against Dominican University on April 5 in Decatur.  Millikin remains undefeated in regular season games at the Workman Family Softball Field improving to 18-0 in the last two seasons.
Millikin won game one 2-1 in eight innings.  The Big Blue scored in the first inning.  Taylor Jordan tripled and scored on a run scoring fielder's choice from Kalli Famer.
Millikin stayed in front until the top of the seventh inning when the Stars tied the game.  It looked like the Big Blue might escaped out of the inning when centerfielder Kailey Lyons made a strong throw home to cut down the potential tying run.  Dominican's Julia Orozco had a RBI base hit with two outs to tie the game.  Millikin escaped out of inning on a diving catch of a line drive from second baseman Lexi Dockins.
The Big Blue scored the game winner in the bottom of the eighth inning on a bases loaded squeeze bunt.  Brooke Heimerl laid down the bunt and pinch runner Devin Curry raced home with the winning run.
Taylor and freshman Skielyr Trenkle had two hits each to lead Millikin.  Senior Cathy Lebryk was the winning pitcher throwing eight innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out three.
Millikin won game two 6-0 behind the two hit pitching of Gracie Brookens.  Brookens threw six shutout innings with Madyson Stallcup pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
Millikin scored three runs in the first inning, one run in the fourth and two in the sixth.  Alyssa Voegele, Chelsea Eads and Trenkle all had RBI singles in the first.  Maggie Comerford drove home Millikin's run in the fourth.  Comerford doubled in sixth and scored on a Dockins triple.  Dockins scored the final run on an errant throw on the play.
Trenkle and Comerford each had two hits.
The Big Blue are scheduled to play at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois on April 7 at 1 p.m.
