The Millikin tennis team split a pair of matches in the 2018 Dorothy McClure Tournament hosted by Millikin at the Fairview Tennis Center in Decatur, Illinois on September 1. The tournament dates back to the early 1900's and is believe to be the oldest collegiate women's tennis event in the country.
In the opener, Millikin lost to Dubuque 6-3. The Big Blue picked up all three points in singles action. Freshman
Shelby Jones won at number two singles 6-0, 6-2.
Danielle Beard won at three singles at 6-3, 6-1 and
Alena Hinch won at five singles 6-2, 7-5.
Millikin won the third place match defeating Illinois College 8-1. Millikin won all six singles matches with
Morgan Bettner, Jones, Beard,
Madeline Delano, Hinch and
Katie Cooper all earning victories. Bettner and Jones won at number one doubles 9-7 and Hinch and Cooper winning at number three doubles 8-2.
Central College defeated Illinois College 7-2 and Dubuque 6-3 to win the tournament.
