DECATUR, Ill. - The Big Blue were back in action at Fairview Park Tennis Complex as they hosted CCIW conference opponent Carroll University. The Big Blue would split singles contests 3-3, but the Pioneers swept doubles 3-0 to take the win.
Morgan Bettner and
Shelby Jones faced Grace Krueger and Ashley LaBelle in the #1 doubles match, where Krueger and LaBelle would win 8-4. In the #2 doubles match, Maya Gaedtke and Carolyn Merkatoris would beat
Brianna Barconi and
Danielle Beard 8-4.
Alena Hinch and
Katie Cooper came the closest to a win in doubles play, facing Rachel Papp and Erika Bosman in the #3 doubles match. Papp and Bosman would defeat Hinch and Cooper 8-6.
In singles play,
Morgan Bettner would face Grace Krueger in the #1 singles spot, where Krueger would edge better 6-3, 6-4. In the #2 singles match,
Shelby Jones went up against Maya Gaedtke. Jones forced Gaedtke into extra points twice, losing the first set 7-6, winning the second set 6-2, and losing the third set 10-8.
Brianna Barconi got a win for the Big Blue after beating Carolyn Merkatoris in the #3 singles match with finals of 6-1, 6-2.
Danielle Beard would go up against Lora Leach in the #4 singles match and would fall 6-2, 6-3.
Katie Cooper joined Barconi in the win column, beating Rachel Papp 6-3 and 6-4 in the #5 singles match.
Alena Hinch would play in the #6 singles match against Erika Bosman and would win the first set 6-1, lose the second set 6-1, and win the third 6-1 to split the singles play with Carroll.
The Big Blue return to action on Thursday, October 17 in Waukesha, Wisconsin as they look ahead to playoffs in the CCIW Tournament.
