Wrestling Opens Season with Victory Over Elmhurst

Millikin Wins Dual 29-18

DECATUR, Ill. - Millikin Wrestling kicked their season off Saturday at the Griswold Center Saturday as they faced Elmhurst College in a CCIW conference dual. The Big Blue would beat the Bluejays with a final score of 29-18, with six Millikin wrestlers recording wins. 

In the 125 pound weight class, freshman Zac Blasioli would face Justin Hames, winning by pin fall for six points. 

Jordan Carson went up against Josh Lawson in the 133 pound weight class match, where Lawson would pick up three points for Elmhurst, winning by a 13-6 decision. 

The 141 pound weight class match saw Millikin's Maxx Fritz wrestle Andre Neal, winning by a 12-2 major decision for four points to the Big Blue. 

Tristan Birt squared off against Jimmy McAullife in the 149 pound weight class matchup, where McAullife would win by pinfall. 

Freshman Peter McCusker wrestled at 157 pounds for the Big Blue, going up against Elmhurst's Christian Komitas. Komitas would win by pinfall. 

Bradan Birt would win by pinfall in the 165 pound match, pinning Sebastian Zaragoza in 27 seconds to pick up six more points for the Big Blue. 

At 174 pounds for Millikin was Jake Tisza who went up against Nevin Brittain. Tisza would win in a 3-1 sudden victory. 

Junior Taylor McGiffen faced Dominic Gallo from Elmhurst, but would fall in a 10-7 decision.

Wrestling at 197 pounds was Logan Hagerbaumer, who would pin Elmhurst's Victor Vargas 1:56 into the first period. 

In the final matchup of the afternoon, 285 pounder Evan Betz would win by a 14-2 major decision over Elmhurst's Karim Fuentes. 

The Big Blue are back in action at the Griswold Center on Saturday, November 9 at 9:30 AM as they host the Millikin Open.
