Millikin Baseball Drops Opening Games

The Big Blue Baseball team dropped their first two games of the 2019 campaign to Hendrix College, 8-6 and 9-0 in Conway, Arkansas on February 16.

Hendrix jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game one in the first inning, but the Big Blue battled back with a four run inning of their own in the top of the third. After Millikin loaded the bases, Jon Walters hit a line drive to center field, ultimately scoring three runs and allowing Walters to advance to third. Millikin scored their fourth run of the inning on the next play by a squeeze bunt by Mason Bruce. Hendrix took the lead again in the bottom of the fourth, but Millikin scored two in the top of the seventh inning on doubles by Brent Beals and Walters. Bruce then hit a liner to right field that was misplayed, scoring Walters and making the score 6-5 Millikin. Hendrix tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and added two more in the bottom of the eight for a lead that they wouldn't relinquish.

Game two featured an outstanding performance by Hendrix starter Evan Ingram, as the Big Blue were limited to hits by just Walters and Bruce. Millikin threatened in several innings, but the Hendrix pitching staff was able to work out of all potential jams to maintain the shutout.

Millikin will look to take game three of the series tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. junior Ben Williamson will get the start on the mound for the Big Blue.
