Baseball Scores Second Series Sweep

The Millikin baseball team completed their sweep of Elmhurst College in seven innings, 11-1 on April 24 at Sunnyside Park in Decatur.

The Big Blue used multiple hit games from Brent Beals (3-4), Jon Walters (2-2), and Gabe Soria (2-3), and Soria also scored three runs for the Big Blue. Mason Bruce led the way with three RBI to assist in the Millikin attack. Millikin scored in every inning except for the first and fourth on their way to earning the sweep against the Bluejays. Millikin won the first two games of the series in dominating fashion on April 2, 11-3 and 24-0 in Elmhurst and outscored the Bluejays in the series 46-4.

Connor Gross earned his sixth win of the season for Millikin, going all seven innings of the mercy-rule shortened game. Gross had seven strikeouts in the game and was able to keep the Bluejays hitters off balance throughout the night, while stranding six Bluejay runners on base. Fred Birr took the loss on the mound for Elmhurst and falls to 2-3 on the season.

Millikin earned its second College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin series sweep of the season with tonight's victory and the recent sweep of Illinois Wesleyan. The last Big Blue baseball team with two conference sweeps in a season was the 2007 team with their three game sweep of North Central and doubleheader victories against Wheaton. With tonight's win, Millikin improves to 17-15 overall and 11-8 in CCIW action. Millikin is scheduled to be back in action on Saturday April 27 at home against North Park.
