Millikin Softball Splits with Augustana

         The Millikin softball team split a conference doubleheader with Augustana College on April 6 at the Workman Family Softball Field in Decatur, Illinois. The Vikings won game one 2-1 and the Big Blue rallied to win game two 6-4 in eight innings.
         Game two went into extra innings with Millikin's Jordan Hildebrand breaking a 4-4 tie with a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning. The Vikings put two runners on in the bottom of the eighth, but Big Blue freshman Aly Armstrong was able to shut down the rally for the Millikin victory. Armstrong earned the win throwing seven innings in relief allowing one unearned run on five hits while striking out five.
         Augustana jumped out to an early lead with a three-run first inning highlighted by a two-run home run from Carly Wilson.
         Trailing 3-1, the Big Blue jumped out to a 4-3 lead with a three run fifth inning. Kelsey Farmer gave Millikin the lead with a two-run single. Augustana tied the game at 4-4 with an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth.
         Kelsey Farmer went 3-4 in the game for Millikin. Maggie Comerford was 2-4.
         Taylor Belo had three hits for Augustana including a double and a triple in game one.
         Millikin scored in the bottom of the first in game one on a run scoring double from Comerford.
         Augustana went ahead in the fourth on a two-run double by Brittany Pospishil. Kelcie Fredrickson was the winning pitcher for the Vikings.
         Millikin is now 17-5, 3-3 while Augustana goes to 12-12, 1-1.
         The Big Blue host Elmhurst College on April 7 at 1 p.m.
