Millikin Softball Splits Doubleheader with Carroll

         The Millikin softball team ended its 2019 regular season with a doubleheader split with Carroll University on May 1 at the Workman Family Softball Field in Decatur, Illinois. The Pioneers won game one 6-5 in 10 innings. The Big Blue closed out the season with a 15-2 win in five innings.
         Carroll's Kaylee Learman was the story in game one going 3-5 with two homeruns and five RBI. Learman ended the game with a solo homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Pioneers the victory. Learman was the winning pitcher in relief throwing six innings allowing three hits and two earned runs.
         Maggie Comerford and Skielyr Trenkle each had two hits for the Big Blue in game one.
         Game two was all Millikin with the Big Blue scoring five runs in the second inning, one in the third and nine in the fourth. Millikin had 11 hits and were helped by three Pioneer errors.
         Taylor Jordan was 2-4 with a triple scoring twice and driving in four. Bailey Gowin was 4-4 with three runs scored and one RBI. Cassidy Knoerzer went 2-3. Comerford had a double and droving in two runs.
         Aly Armstrong was the winning pitcher for Millikin throwing all five innings allowing two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts.
         Learman hit her third homerun of the day in the Pioneer's second inning.
         Millikin is now 26-12, 8-8 while Carroll goes to 22-17, 8-8.
