JACKSON, Miss. - Millikin Baseball wrapped up their weekend in Jackson, Mississippi on Sunday, March 1 as they took on Adrian College. The Big Blue would come back from a 3-2 deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning to win 4-3 on a walk-off double by
Brent Beals.
Ben Williamson would make the start on the mound for Millikin and would put in 6.0 innings of work, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out one. Mo Hanley made the start for Adrian and would also throw 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, recording ten strikeouts on the day.
Adrian would score the first run of the game in the second inning on a ground out from Nick Rauch that would bring home Brandon Cooper to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead after two innings of play.
The Big Blue would respond an inning later when
Andrew Auton would drive in
Brent Beals on an RBI single to right field to tie the game at 1-1 at the end of the third.
The game would stay tied until the bottom of the fifth inning when Millikin would take a 2-1 lead, seeing
Andrew Auton reach base on a dropped third strike advancing
Brent Beals to third and scoring
Merrik Eddington from third.
Adrian would tie the game back up in the sixth inning on a balk that would score Tristin Richardson from third.
The Bulldogs would take the lead in the top half of the ninth inning for the first time in the game since the second inning as Ty Peck would hit an RBI triple to right field scoring Nick Rauch to take a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth,
Brent Beals would step up to the plate with
Gabe Soria and
Aaron Klar on base. With a 1-2 count, Beals would hit a double to the gap in left center that would bring Soria and Klar across the plate to end the game 4-3 in favor of the Big Blue.
Jack Morgan would earn the win for Millikin, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out three. Jacob Hanoian would pick up a loss for Adrian, allowing two runs on two hits with three strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched.
Brent Beals led the Big Blue at the plate going 3-4 on the day with two doubles and two RBIs.
Andrew Auton would post two hits with one RBI in the game.
The Big Blue are back in action on Saturday, March 7 at 10:00 AM as they host St. Norbert College at the Workman Family Baseball Field for their first regular season game at the brand new facility.
