DECATUR, Ill. - Millikin Men's Volleyball hosted the Carthage College Red Men on Saturday, March 7 at the Griswold Center in a CCIW matchup. Carthage entered the match ranked #11 in the NCAA National Rankings. The Big Blue would fall in straight sets to bring their record to 3-15 on the year going 1-6 in CCIW conference play.
The Red Men came out of the gate strong on the attack, but the Big Blue would keep the score within two until Cartage went on a five point scoring run to go up 11-5. The Red Men would hold the lead the entirety of the set and would score four in a row three times in the second half of the match to win 25-11.
The second set saw Millikin strike first on a
Jose Gallardo kill but Carthage would score two right back. Millikin would answer scoring four in a row before Carthage would score again. Two more points later would give Millikin a four point lead at 7-3. Shortly thereafter Carthage scored five to go ahead 9-8 and would keep the lead for the remainder of the set to win 25-17.
Millikin would again score first in the third set of the match, taking an early 2-0 lead on the Red Men. After back and forth play, Carthage would pull away on a three point scoring run that would put them ahead 11-7. The Red Men would have a six point lead twice later in the set and a seven point lead at 23-16 before Millikin would score three straight to come within four. Millikin would score one more before a kill by Peyton Wieter would end the set 25-20 to end the match with a 3-0 final score.
Colby Campbell led the match on defense recording four blocks on the day with
Kyle Clendenen and
Jose Gallardo each posting two.
Jose Gallardo and Carthage's Peyton Wieter led the match with seven kills a piece.
Colby Campbell and
Shayden Attao followed close behind Gallardo posting five kills each.
The Big Blue will play next on Friday, March 13 as they face Indiana Tech on the road at 7:00 PM.
