Big Blue Women's Triathlon Wins NCAA Qualifier Race at Kinetic Cup Triathlon Festival

The Big Blue women's triathlon team traveled to Smith Mountain Lake, Va. to participate in an NCAA Qualifier Race as part of the Kinetic Cup Triathlon Festival. The Big Blue won the triathlon as a team, the first NCAA Qualifier Millikin has won since the program was established in 2018.

Millikin's Hope Roderick was the top finisher with an overall time of 1:11:32.7, which was enough to notch a fifth place finish. Alyson Barnes finished in a time of 1:12:22.9 to take sixth place overall. Millikin stacked up finishers again not much later, with Kaitlin Yelaska taking 11th place with a time of 1:15:15.9, and Brigid Duesterhaus wasn't far behind in 12th with an overall time of 1:16:22.5.

Jaden Lockard clocked in next for the Big Blue in 35th place in a time of 1:24:06.6. A pair of Millikin triathletes took 37th and 38th, with Julia Druml finishing in 1:26:15.4 and Shay Buchanan less than a minute behind her to finish in a time of 1:26:59.

Millikin supplied the first three athletes to exit the water. Roderick, Yelaska, and Barnes were the first three to wrap up the swimming portion of the race, with Duesterhaus and Buchanan not far behind. Roderick also clocked the quickest transition time from the swim to the bike.

Four members of the Big Blue triathlon team will travel to St. George, Utah for a National Qualifying race on Saturday, October 30 before their season wraps up at the NCAA Triathlon Championship in mid-November.
