Millikin Football Falls in Homecoming Shootout to Carthage

The Millikin football team dropped a wild Homecoming shootout to Carthage College 63-42 on October 2 at Frank M. Lindsay Field in Decatur.
 
In addition to posting 105 points on the scoreboard the teams combined for 1,171 yards of total offense with Millikin gaining 651 yards and Firebirds racking up 520 yards.
 
Millikin set a new record for passing yards in a game with 431 while rushing for 220 yards.  Quarterback Cal Pohrte was 19-31-2 passing for a school record 391 yards breaking his own record by one yard. Pohrte had three touchdown passes. Aidan Lombard came on in relief and connected for one pass from 40 yards and one touchdown. Colton Lockwood led the Millikin receivers with seven catches for 207 yards and three scores. Freshman Antonio Brown had four catches for 127 yards and one touchdown. Marion McGhee had 103 yards rushing for Millikin on 25 carries scoring two touchdowns. Tyson Roedl gained 88 yards on 12 carries.
 
Carthage quarterback Bryce Lowe 17-23-1 passing for 336 yards and six touchdowns.
Eddie Ell III had seven catches for 187 yards and three touchdowns. Travis Boston, Jr. lead the Carthage rushers with 101 yards on 16 carries.
 
Carthage jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter before the Big Blue answered with a two scores to tie the game at 14-14. The Firebirds led 21-14 at the end of the first quarter. Carthage would again outscored Millikin 21-14 in the second quarter to lead 42-28 at halftime. Each teams scored one touchdown in the fourth quarter before the Firebirds posed 14 in the final quarter compared to Millikin's seven.
 
Carthage improves to 3-1, 3-0 while Millikin falls to 2-2 and 2-1 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play. The Big Blue travel to Elmhurst University on October 9.
