Millikin Men’s Basketball’s Comeback Bid Falls Short

The Millikin men's basketball team's comeback bid fell short falling at Coe College 77-73 on December 22 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
 
Coe led 37-27 at halftime and pushed out to a 13 point lead five minutes into the second half. The Kohawks lead 61-50 with 7:35 remaining in the game. Millikin began its comeback pulling to within four points at 67-63 with 3:38 left on a three-pointer by JT Welch. Coe pushed the lead back out to eight points before the Big Blue made one final run. Noah Livingston's layup and free throw pulled Millikin to within one at 74-73 with 1:14 remaining in the game. Ray Thrapp answered with a basket for Coe to make it a 76-73 game with 46 seconds left in the game. Millikin had its chances missing five shots in the final 40 seconds. Millikin rebounding and forced two turnovers in the final seconds but could not get its shots to fall.
 
Millikin was 25-64 (39 percent) from the field and went 7-25 (28 percent) from three-point range. Coe shot 29-59 (49 percent) and made 9-22 (41 percent) from beyond the arc.
 
Calvin Fisher led the Big Blue with 29 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. Drake Stevenson had 10 points and nine rebounds. Michael Akinwumi added 10 points.
 
Coe was led by Jared Kruse with 26 points and 13 rebounds.
 
Millikin returns to action for its final non-conference game of the season hosting Greenville University on January 1, 2022 at 2 p.m. at the Griswold Center.
