Millikin Women's Tennis Continues Winning Streak Against Carroll

In the second match of their road trip to Wisconsin, the Big Blue women's tennis team nabbed their second victory of the weekend against the Pioneers of Carroll University. The match played in Waukesha, Wis. at the Jean Kilgour-Trailblazer Tennis Complex resulted in a 5-4 victory for Millikin. Women's tennis improved to 5-2 on the season, bringing their winning streak to four victorious matches in a row and remaining undefeated in conference play. In addition to picking up their second College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin victory, this was also the first time the Big Blue women's tennis team has defeated Carroll University since they re-joined the CCIW in 2016.

Starting off doubles play, the team of Nikol Obradovic and Katie Cooper finished first, defeating Rachel Papp and Kaitlin Brandl of Carroll 8-2. The only doubles loss for the Big Blue finished next with Carroll's Grace Krueger and Madison Ostrander beating Brianna Barconi and Cristina Borunda 4-8. Picking up the second singles victory for MU was the team of Shelby Jones and Destiny Galvan over Maya Gaedtke and Carolyn Merkatoris with an 8-7 victory with a 7-2 tiebreaker.

In singles play, Cooper was victorious once again over Papp, winning 6-1, 7-5 at #6. Barconi's match at #2 finished second, and she also claimed victory over Ostrander, 7-5, 6-2. Borunda was defeated in the next match to finish by Gaedtke at #3 6-7 (6-7), 1-6. Danielle Beard secured the final singles victory at #5 for the Big Blue with a win over Merkatoris 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

At #4, Taylor Milholland was defeated by Lora Leach of the Pioneers 0-6, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, and Obradovic lost to Krueger at #1 6-3, 5-7, 5-7.

Millikin women's tennis will shift back into non-conference play on Saturday, March 27 when they take on Webster University at the Fairview Park Tennis Complex in Decatur, Ill.
