Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Morgan Vogels

Men's Tennis Outlasts Prairie State College

Millikin men's tennis took the court at the Fairview Park Tennis Complex on Sunday, March 28 against Prairie State College. The Big Blue were the victors by a 5-4 margin. 

Starting off strong in doubles play, the team of Holden Owens and Clayton Maack defeated Hesley Forbes and Jedrzei Brodzki of Prairie State at #2 in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-3). Jacob Palley and Nick Laramee were defeated at #1 by Victor Dieltiens and Richard Ngwarwi 6-8, and Cory Erickson and James Broach's loss to Oskar Klopotowski and Miguel Ferreira at #3 5-8 put the Big Blue down 1-2 heading into the singles competitions. 

In the first match to finish, Owens defeated Ngwarwi at #3 6-3, 6-1 to even the score. The Pioneers pulled back ahead with a win at #4 when Laramee took the loss to Forbes 0-6, 0-4. Following in the footsteps of his doubles partner, Maack picked up a victory at #2, defeating Brodzki 6-2, 6-2. Broach was defeated at #6 by Ferreira 0-6, 3-6 to put the Pioneers up once again. Knotting things up at four apiece with one match left to finish was Palley at #1 who pulled out a victory after dropping the second set to Dieltiens 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. 

In a match that went to three sets with a tiebreaker, Erickson was victorious over Klopotowski to earn the 5-4 win for Millikin. Erickson won the first set at #5 6-4 before dropping set two 4-6. In his 7-6 third set victory, Erickson won the tiebreaker 7-5. 

Big Blue men's tennis will face a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opponent in their next matchup on Friday, April 2 when they travel to Naperville, Ill. to take on North Central College.
