Women's Tennis Cruises past Elmhurst

The Big Blue women's tennis team took on their first opponent of a two-match road trip north on Friday, April 16 at Elmhurst University. Millikin defeated the Blue Jays 8-1. 

In doubles play, Nikol Obradovic and Katie Cooper picked up the first win over Val Schallmo and Alitza Munoz 8-0 at #3. Shelby Jones and Destiny Galvan followed suit with an 8-0 defeat of Bailey Ekstrand and Megan Engstrom at #2. The only loss of the day for the Big Blue came at the hands of Julia Kostadinova and Isabella Rahman at #1 doubles, who were victorious over Brianna Barconi and Cristina Borunda by a 6-8 margin. 

On the singles side, Cooper tallied another victory at #6, handing Schallmo a 6-1, 6-0 loss. Barconi notched the next singles win for Millikin at #2, taking 6-0 and 6-1 set victories over June Bering. Borunda defeated Rahman at #3 in the next match to finish 6-1, 6-1. Taylor Milholland took a win at #4 over Ekstrand 6-2, 6-4. Rounding out the sweep in singles for the Big Blue, Danielle Beard took the first set over Engstrom 6-0 before winning 7-6 in a 7-5 tiebreaker in the second set. Obradovic secured the final win at #1, defeating Kostadinova 6-2, 6-3. 

The Big Blue improved to 4-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, 9-5 overall. Women's tennis will take the court on Saturday, April 17 as they match up with Wheaton College for another CCIW competition.
