Millikin Drops Twin Bill

The Millikin baseball team lost a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) doubleheader to #11 North Central College on April 24 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur.  The Cardinals won game one 6-2 and took the nightcap 5-3.
 
After the start of the games were delayed twice due to rain, the Big Blue jumped out to a quick 2-0 advantage in game one. Tommy Shaw had a one out single. Millikin executed the hit and run to perfection as Shaw scored from first base on a single to right center by Frank Bryan. Kyle Kane doubled home Bryan to make it 2-0 Millikin after one inning.
 
North Central cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the second on a solo home run by Justin Rios. North Central tied the game in the fifth when they converted a leadoff walk into a run. Rios and Paul Beverly each doubled in the eighth to give North Central the 3-2 advantage. The Cardinals scored three insurance runs in the ninth highlighted by a two-run triple from Dom Listi.
 
Both starting pitchers threw well with Millikin's Adam Zuk taking the loss throwing seven and one-third innings allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out six. Jason Shanner was the winning pitcher for North Central pitching a complete game and limited the Big Blue to five hits and two earned runs with 13 strikeouts.
 
Shaw had two of Millikin's five hits in game one. Rios had three hits for the Cardinals.
 
In game two, Millikin scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first, but the Cardinals took control of the game with a five run second inning. The inning was highlighted by a two-run single from Luke Lehnen and a run scoring triple by Listi.
 
Millikin had single runs in the sixth and ninth. Bryan and Lucas Ryan had RBI singles for the Big Blue. Bryan and Soria each had two hits in game two.
 
Lehnen and Listi each had two hits for the Cardinals. Ryan Behling was the winning pitcher throw seven innings allowing five hits and one earned.
 
Millikin falls to 19-7, 12-6 while North Central improves to 22-5, 16-3.
