Big Blue Women's Tennis Topples Titans

The Big Blue women's tennis team traveled to Bloomington, Ill. on Saturday, April 24 to match up against Illinois Wesleyan in a dual match. Millikin took down the Titans 8-1. 

Millikin started with a 3-0 sweep of doubles. Brianna Barconi and Cristina Borunda picked up win 8-6 at #1 over Alessia Girardin and Rebecca Rochacz. Destiny Galvan and Shelby Jones took the second win of the day for the Big Blue at #2, taking an 8-2 victory over Anna Cooper and Ashley Mohr. The final match of doubles credited a win by default to Katie Cooper and Nikol Obradovic. 

In singles, Danielle Beard defeated Katelyn Heller of Illinois Wesleyan at #5 with 6-4, 6-1 set victories. The only loss of the day for the Big Blue was the second singles match to finish, with Rochacz defeating Barconi at #2 5-7, 1-6. Obradovic nabbed the next win for Millikin, taking the win over Girardin at #1 6-1, 6-0. Taylor Milholland was also victorious at #4, defeating Mohr 7-5, 7-6. Rounding out singles play, Borunda took down Cooper 6-3, 6-2 at #3. Cooper was credited with the final win of the day by forfeit. 

With the win, Millikin improved to 10-6 overall with a 5-3 record in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Women's tennis will finish off their 2021 season at the CCIW Tournament beginning Thursday, April 29.
