Men's Tennis Falls to Carthage at Home

The Big Blue men's tennis team celebrated Jacob Palley and Nick Laramee on Senior Day Friday, April 9 at the Fairview Park Tennis Complex. MU matched up against Carthage College, and they were defeated 3-6. 

Millikin was swept in doubles play with the team of Laramee and Palley finishing first at #1. They were defeated by Nicolas Welker and Matt Krzewinski 4-8. In the next match to finish, Cory Erickson and James Broach were beaten by John Nykyforuk and Andre Antreassian at #3 5-8. Rounding out doubles play, Holden Owens and Clayton Maack were taken down in a tiebreaker 7-8 (4-7) by Cooper Ferruzzi and Kevin Dunn.

In singles play, three Millikin athletes earned victories. However, the first two matches to finish clinched the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin win for Carthage. Broach took the loss at #6 to Hayden Friese 0-6, 1-6. His doubles partner, Erickson, was also defeated at #5 3-6, 2-6 by Antreassian. Owens picked up the first win of the day for the Big Blue, defeating Ferruzzi 6-3, 6-2. Maack followed suit with a win at #2, defeating Krzewinski 6-4, 6-2. With the final win for Millikin at #1, Palley picked up the victory over Welker 7-6 (7-6), 1-6, 10-4. Finishing out singles play, Chris Mitev of the Firebirds defeated Laramee 5-7, 6-4, 8-10.

The Big Blue are slated to take on their second conference opponent from Wisconsin of the weekend on Saturday, April 10 when the Pioneers of Carroll University make the trip to the Decatur Athletic Club.
