Big Blue Baseball Knocks Off Augustana in CCIW Tournament

The number three seeded Millikin baseball team defeated the number two seed Augustana College 5-3 today in the second round of the 2021 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament in game played in Carol Stream, Illinois on May 20. The Big Blue are 2-0 in the tournament and face Carroll University on Friday, May 21 back in Carol Stream at 3 p.m. The Pioneers knocked off number one seed North Central College 11-6 in 10 innings.
 
Millikin's Frank Bryan got the Big Blue on the board in the first inning with a solo home run. Millikin went up 2-0 in the top of the fourth when Brent Beals doubled and scored on a Vikings error.
 
Augustana tied the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a sacrifice fly from Matt Ozanic and an RBI single from Griffen Pschigoda.
 
The Big Blue answered in the top of the fifth inning when Bryan hit his second home run of the game this time a two-run shot. The teams exchanged runs in the seventh. For Millikin, Beals drove home Gabe Soria, who had walked, with a base hit. The Vikings run was a home run from Pschigoda.
 
Soria and Bryan each picked up two hits for Millikin. Caleb Buehrle was the winning pitcher for the Big Blue throwing a complete game allowing 10 hits and three earned runs while striking out 10.
 
Millikin is now 29-13 on the season while Augustana falls to 34-8.
