Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Morgan Vogels

Women's Tennis Concludes Play at Transylvania Fall Invitational

The Big Blue women's tennis team concluded play at the Transylvania Fall Invitational on Sunday, September 5, playing singles matches against Asbury and doubles matches against Transylvania and Wooster. 

The Big Blue's Nikol Obradovic picked up a win in singles play against Alexandra Lerma of Asbury 6-3, 6-1. Paige Willer was also victorious, defeating Isabella Gutierrez 6-2, 6-2. Cristina Borunda and Taylor Milholland both earned victories as well, with Borunda defeating Mary-Grayce Narron 6-2, 6-2 and Milholland taking down Rachel Call 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-9). Chloe Sabin defeated Allie Sutton in twin 0-6 sets. Emily Markus dropped her first singles match of the season at the hands of Luciana Iriarte by a score of 2-1, 7-6 (10-7), 0-1 (10-5). Destiny Galvan was defeated by Kourtney Kawate of Asbury 4-6, 5-7.

On the doubles side, Markus and Willer defeated Porshe Robinson and Jessica Burton of Transylvania 8-6. The team of Sabin and Milholland earned a victory over Shania Jones and Mallory Johnson 8-0, and Amber Rezinas and Zariah Wherry defeated Clair Roland and Abby Stamps of the Pioneers 8-2. Borunda and Obradovic fell to Grace Gardner and Katherine Taylor 3-8, and Galvan and Shelby Jones took a loss to Christina Duvall and Alyssa Igyarto 6-8.

In the final round of doubles for MU, Obradovic and Sabin partnered up for a win over Otilia Oita and Kim Nguyen of Wooster 8-2. Picking up another win for Millikin was Milholland and Jones who beat Abby Aitken and Becky LaRue 8-2. Falling in doubles in the final round was the team of Markus and Willer, defeated by a score of 4-8 by Cherry Patlolla and Ishika Gupta and Borunda and Galvan who took a loss to Janaki Jagannathan and Emma Saxton 4-8. 

The Big Blue women's tennis team will continue their 2021 campaign on Friday, September 10 when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind. to face the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
