Millikin Women’s Basketball Remains Undefeated in CCIW Action

The Millikin women's basketball team improved to 6-0 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) play with a 68-48 win over Wheaton College on January 12 at the Griswold Center in Decatur.
 
Millikin lead 18-13 after the first quarter and 30-27 at halftime. The Thunder made a run in the third quarter tying the game at 34-34 with 6:40 remaining. The Big Blue turned up the defensive pressure coming up forcing five turnovers including four steals on Wheaton's next six offensive possessions. Millikin ended the game with 17 steals and scored 30 points off Wheaton's 21 turnovers. Millikin had a 12-1 run to close out the third quarter and held a 48-37 lead going into the final quarter. The Big Blue outscored the Thunder 20-11 in the fourth quarter resulting in a 20 point win.
 
Millikin shot 40 percent (29-72) from the field and had a cold night from three-point range making 6-22 (27 percent). The Big Blue made 3-5 from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter. Wheaton shot 31 percent (18-58) from the field and went 4-14 (29 percent) from three-point range.
 
CCIW Player of the Week Elyce Knudsen led Millikin with 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Jordan Hildebrand had a double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds along with four assists. Bailey Coffman had 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
 
Wheaton's top scorer was Annika Richardson with 21 points followed by Ellie Cassel with 10.
 
Millikin is now 12-3, 6-0 while Wheaton goes to 10-4, 2-4. The Big Blue host Carthage College on Saturday, January 15 at 2 p.m.
