Big Blue Women’s Basketball Downs Vikings

The Millikin women's basketball team scored an important College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) road win 78-69 at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois on January 22.
 
The Big Blue used a strong first quarter to jump out to a 25-9 advantage. Millikin shot 67 percent (8-12) from the field in the period including going 3-5 from three-point range. Millikin held its largest lead in the game at 38-16 with 4:12 left to play in the second quarter. The Big Blue offense then sputtered the rest of the quarter scoring no points and committing six turnovers. It was a 38-23 game at halftime. Augustana pulled to within six points midway through the third quarter, but the Big Blue answered and held a 53-39 lead after three quarters. The Vikings could never get closer than nine points in the final quarter.
 
Millikin shot 47 percent (25-53) from the field for the game shooting 32 percent (6-19) from three-point range. The Big Blue took advantage of its opportunities at the free throw line making 22-24.  Augustana shot 21-49 (43 percent) from the field and made 11-27 (41 percent) from beyond the arc.  Millikin forced Augustana into 28 turnovers with the Big Blue recording 19 steals resulted in 32 points. The Vikings kept themselves in the game by dominating the glass outrebounding Millikin 34-20.
 
Bailey Coffman and Aubrey Staton led Millikin in scoring with 18 points each. Jordan Hildebrand and Elyce Knudsen each scored 13 points. Knudsen had five steals. Miranda Fox had a team high six steals for the Big Blue.
 
Macy Beinborn led the Vikings with 24 points and six rebounds. She made four three-pointers scoring 13 points in the third quarter propelling the Vikings run.
 
Millikin is now 14-4, 8-1 and Augustana is 7-10, 1-7.
